Edna Waddell Undergraduate Scholarships for Women in Technology and
Engineering

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide funds to help women
undertake undergraduate study for degrees in engineering and technology
at New Zealand universities.  The Scholarships will be for women
entering their first year of full time study for an undergraduate
degree, who have not previously studied full time at that level in
technology and engineering. The Scholarships are intended for school
leavers and mature women; if the latter, preference will be given to
those who have worked in industry for at least three years or/and have
passed sub-degree courses in technology or engineering.=20

Each Scholarship will be for one year, the initial year of study and the
target maximum value for each Scholarship is $5,000. Three Scholarships
are available in 2008 for academic study in 2009. Applications must be
submitted by 1st October 2008.

2 NZIFST Fellows (& JCAndrews Award winners) appointed to NZ Fast
Forward Board=20

Seven outstanding people have been appointed to the New Zealand Fast
Forward board, Agriculture Minister Jim Anderton said today (5 August).
Jim Anderton said he was delighted with the calibre of the new board
members, which matched the potential of the up to $2 billion investment
to boost innovation in our food and pastoral agriculture sectors.=20

The board members are: Bill Baylis, Bill Falconer, Robin Fenwick,
Richard Janes, Kevin Marshall, Mike Matthews, and Jacqueline Rowarth.
The board will be chaired by Bill Falconer.=20

New Zealand Fast Forward is an initiative set up with $700 million from
Government, to be allocated over the 10-15-year life of the fund. The
Government contribution is to be matched with private sector investment.
Already seven industry groups have committed to be cornerstone
investors, each putting in at least $10 million in the next five years.=20

Jim Anderton said the board members all had a long association with
different sectors in New Zealand's primary industries. "They understand
the importance of innovation, of maintaining our global leadership in
food production, and of applying knowledge - new technologies and new
products - to our primary industries." He said the New Zealand Fast
Forward initiative had been warmly embraced by the primary industries
sector. "There is clear and overwhelming recognition of the timeliness
of this initiative."=20
